We are proud to acknowledge our contribution to this £1.7m project for the civil engineering works in connection with the refurbishment of the Alfred Dock Gates.
Work included substantial ground and site excavations, tie bar installation and resurfacing works at both the South and North quays of the Alfred River Entrance in Birkenhead.
The site included the area in the vicinity of the Alfred Lock Outer-South and Outer-North Gates which are located within the Birkenhead impounded dock system and are classified Yellow in accordance with the BDA classification scheme.
Site investigations revealed a high risk that UXO could be present on site and it was therefore necessary to employ the services of a geotechnical surveyor to monitor the boreholes whilst being installed.
The lock gates were refurbished by Cammell Laird Ltd whilst JLF completed all the civil engineering works and reinstalled the tie rods necessary for the successful operation of the gates.
